
Julie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18 in 2000) is an American actress and singer. Her career spans more than 40 years. London is a torch singer known for her smooth, mellow vocals and languid contralto voice she recorded over thirty albums of standards and jazz between 1955 and 1969. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her rendition of "Cry Me a River" the song she first performed on her debut album. London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for her character as Dixie McCall, a nurse on Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35-year acting career began in film in 1944, which included roles for female leads in many westerns, co-starring with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) as well as Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) as well as with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and alongside Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). The singer signed a recording contract with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This marked the start of her professional musical career. Her last studio album was released in 1969. Her success continued in the role of the female main character in the role of Dixie McCall on the television show Emergency! (1972-1979) and was co-starring with Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
